壬辰倭亂時의 嶺左義兵活動一斑

Abstract

壬辰倭亂(1592~1598)에 관한 認識이 새로워짐과 아울러 그 당시에 있어서의 義兵活動은 倭軍의 擊退, 國土의 守護에 보다 중요한 役割을 한 것으로 評價된다. 또한 朝鮮社會의 모순이 나타난 當時의 狀況에서 全國的으로 義兵이 蜂起할 수 있었던 基底에는 儒生 내지 士林層의 主導와 一般百姓의 呼應이 있었던 것으로 풀이되고 있다.

여하간 이 義兵에 대하여는 많은 論究가 있지만, 嶺左慶尙東部地域에서의 活動은 잘 알려져 있지 않다. 따라서 극히 制限된 資料이나마 近來에 入收된 義兵關係記錄을 檢討하여 이 地方의 義兵活動을 考究코저 하였다. 그리하여 蔚山地方의 義兵은 全國的인 義兵의 性格과 맥락을 같이 하는 것으로 판단되었다.

This is a case study on the role of Korean militia in fighting against the Japanese invasion during the years between 1592 and 1598.

It is estimated that the Korean militia played an important part in driving the enemy forces out of the Korean peninsula. Though researches have been carried out concerning this militia, little is known about their movements around the eastern part of Kyung-sang Do Province. Examining the records recently discovered, it is concluded that the militia made great contributions to the protection of Ulsan area against the Japanese invasion.
