- Abstract
- Cobalt–chromium–molybdenum–silicon (CoCrMoSi) alloys have been employed in mechanical components for harsh operating conditions. The tribological properties of CoCrMoSi alloy were examined against CoCr alloy, low alloy steel, and high-chromium cast iron (HCCI). The CoCrMoSi alloy exhibited improved tribological performance when slid against CoCr alloy than against low alloy steel or HCCI. Mild and severe adhesive wear was identifed as the main wear mechanism of the CoCrMoSi alloy against CoCr alloy and low alloy steel, respectively, associated with the role of tribo-flm at the contact interface. Signs of mild abrasive wear were observed against HCCI. These results may lead to a better understanding of the tribological properties of CoCrMoSi alloys, thus contributing to their optimal use as wear-resistant materials.
