Alternative Title
Design of the Surface Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor for Robot Applications Utilizing Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel
Abstract
In this article, grain-oriented electrical steel (GO) is partially used for the stator of a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) for robot applications. The GO is applied to the teeth part because it has a superior magnetic performance in the rolling direction. The load and no-load characteristics of the target SPMSM were improved using the GO. The torque of the proposed model was about 4% higher compared to a conventional motor using non-grain-oriented electrical steel. The reduction rates for the load and no-load iron loss were 23.75% and 28.15%, respectively. Moreover, torque, cogging torque, and back electromotive force pulsation characteristics were also improved. Therefore, it can be said that partial application of the GO improves the general performance of the SPMSM.
