Abstract
Recent sensing devices for haptic interaction in immersive virtual reality (IVR) environments have become much more feasible for sufficient experience. This paper investigates the effect on the size of virtual hand joints for collision detection with virtual objects related to natural interaction in IVR. We compare and explore interaction quality according to change in size of hand skeleton joints, in our study, we found effective configuration of the size of each virtual hand joint was set to a 3mm when interacting a 8mm virtual cube. With our approach, when interacting with virtual objects, it would be helpful to relatively apply to hand joint changes depending on the size of virtual objects for improved interaction quality.
