Abstract

[萬福寺樗蒲記]의 非現實的 내용이 독자에게 수긍되며 공감을 줄 수 있는 것은 그 작품의 내용이 인간의 본능적 욕망에 부합하는 어떤 심리적 반응을 유발하는 요인을 지니기 때문이다.

[만복사저포기]는 주인공인 梁生이 죽은 娘子의 幼身과 결합하고 이별한다는 것이 기본구조다. 이러한 기본구조는 심리적으로 梁生으로 상징된 自我의 여성적인 다른 한 부분을 意識化하는 과정에 대응된다.

그리고 [만복사저포기]에서는 自我의 意識化과정에서 그 대상인 女人으로 상징되는 心的기능과 自我를 도와주는 心的기능이 매우 分化되어 나타난다.

문학작품이 지니는 상징의 의미를 설명하는 것은 문학작품이 그러한 설명의 總和를 넘어선 '어떤 것'이라는 한계 아래서 이루어진다. 그러나 그것은 작품의 구조를 분명히 함으로써 작품을 이해하는 하나의 방편이 될 수 있다.
