Abstract
문장 독해는 다양한 종류의 정보를 분석하는 과정이다. 학생들은 이미 알고 있는 정보를 바탕으로 해서 새로운 정보에 대해서 끊임없이 예측하고 이런 예측을 새로운 정보와 비교하여 그 타당성을 검사한다. 이렇게 텍스트에서 정보를 알아내는 속도를 늘이고 어려움을 줄이기 위해서는 학생들은 자신들이 찾아내야 할 정보가 과연 어떤 종류인가에 대해서 확실한 생각을 지니고 있어야 한다. 이런 경우 교사가 할 일은 학생들에게 그들이 텍스트를 읽기 전에 그들이 찾아내야 할 정보가 무엇인가에 대한 사전지식을 갖도록 해 주는 것이다. 그럼으로써 학생들은 분명한 목적을 지니고 독서에 임하게 된다. 이것이 바로 목적 지향적 독서인 것이다. 본논문에서는 discourse-level의 독해력 문제에 중점을 두었다.
Reading comprehension is a way of processing information on various levels. Readers form continuous predications as to incoming information on the basis of the prior analysis of old information and check on the validity of the prediction by comparing them with a sample of new information. To facilitate the speed and ease of extracting information from the text, readers should have a clear idea as to the specific types of information they are looking for. Of a variety of things that teachers can do for students is to present them with pre-reading comprehension questions or necessary background information, so that students can have firmly established expectations and purposes as to their reading tasks. In this paper, the present writer has focused on the discourse-level reading comprehension.
